Is Dubbing Next? The Signals YouTube Is Sending
So far we've talked about reaching overseas viewers with subtitles and translation. But lately on YouTube, dubbing (multi-language audio) is growing fast. Mearri focuses on subtitles and translation for now, but the trend is so clear that we thought it was worth walking through together.
Dubbing is already a big share of watch time
According to YouTube CEO Neal Mohan on the official blog in 2025, for videos with dubbed audio, more than 40% of total watch time is spent in the dubbed language. Creators who uploaded multi-language audio tracks also saw, on average, over 25% of their watch time come from a language other than the video's original one.
Big creators are moving first
In early tests that included creators like MrBeast, more than 15% of watch time came from non-primary languages, and over 3,500 videos were uploaded in more than 40 languages. In January 2023 alone, over 2 million hours of dubbed video were watched per day. Chef Jamie Oliver channel tripled its views with multi-language audio, and Mark Rober layered on more than 30 languages per video on average.
Millions already watch it every day
In figures Neal Mohan shared in 2026, as of December 2025 more than 6 million people per day, on average, watched at least 10 minutes of auto-dubbed content. Dubbing is no longer an experiment for a few big channels, it is becoming an everyday habit that millions consume naturally.
Mearri is considering adding dubbing
To be honest, though, Mearri right now focuses on subtitle generation, translation, review, and YouTube upload, and does not offer dubbing yet.
